4500 N. Winchester, Chicago IL 60640
This building is an 88 unit 11 story building. It was built in
1968 as housing for nurses and doctors when the Ravenswood Hospital
was growing and expected to be a major medical force on Chicago's
Northwest Side. Things didn't turn out as planned as the hospital
closed in the mid 1990's and the building was converted to
apartments.
The building features 44 four and one half room two bedroom
apartments and 44 three and one half one bedroom apartments. The
units have heat included, but electric and central air are paid for
by the tenant. There is a laundry room on the first floor. Rents
are about $1300 for the two bedrooms and about $995 for the one
bedrooms. Laundry facilities and bike storage are on the ground
floor.
As an added bonus Lycee Francais de Chicago, known as the French
School, is seeking permission to build a new school and campus to
replace the aging original hospital building located on Wilson
Avenue. Once this is done, the old parking lot will be transformed
into open green space and a soccer field for the students.
